Tales
of the Big Bend
by
Elton Miles
Book is in MINT condition in MINT Dust Jacket
- The author chronicles over 350 years of the Texas Big Bend folk
tradition. These are tales to be enjoyed for the richness and
variety that reflect the history and character of a land where three
cultures - Indian, Mexican and Anglo - met, sometimes peacefully,
sometimes with violence.
- The tales are as inseparable from the Big Bend as the Rio Grand,
the mountains and the canyons. Most of the tales are presented in
several, often conflicting versions. Mostly, variations demonstrate
the folklorist tradition of making a good story better. A few of the
tales are from old books, but most were collected by the author over
the 25 years (at time of publication) that he spent living in the
Big Bend area.
